To open these files, you'll need logo design software such as Adobe Illustrator (which we'll use in this article, although most other vector programs work the same way). Vector files are much easier to edit than raster files because you can scale them up or down as much as needed. Indeed, images are made of lines and dots, and each shape is automatically separated from the others on its own layer.  that is to say tiny colored squares , which therefore does not allow them to be enlarged without reducing the quality of the image. The only way to change them is to erase or paint over them. All about vector and raster images >>Illustration explaining vector image file types It is better to have your logo in vector format to modify it Illustration explaining raster image file types Raster images are not ideal for modifying a logo What if you don't have your logo in vector format ? If you only have a raster image of your logo, vectorize it.

If you're unfamiliar with graphic design software, enlist the help photo retouching service of a designer to vectorize your logo so you can make changes to it. Illustrator has an "image vectorization" feature that automatically generates a vector version ( this conversion process is explained here ) . The “image vectorization” function will be more or less useful depending on the starting image you have and the look you are looking for. That said, the surest way to get a good vector file is to trace it by hand in a vector program . Using the "Image Vectorize" Tool and the Pen Tool in Illustrator >> Save a copy of your initial logo Finally, assuming you're ready to make your desired changes, make sure you have a copy of your original logo file.

Although this may seem like common sense, it is not uncommon to forget it. Not only is this useful for doing a before/after comparison, but you'll also need a backup in case your first (or second, or third) logo editing attempt doesn't go as planned . How to change the size and position of your logo — Changing the size, position, or scale of your logo is, fortunately, one of the easiest changes to make. In Illustrator, the Selection tool (hover over the icons in the toolbar to see what each is for) lets you select and reposition your logo. If your logo is not "clustered", you will only be able to select one shape at a time, in which case you can use the selection tool to create a box and select the entire logo.
